Fresh Catch is a series conceived from derelict lobster traps salvaged off the coast of New England. The traps are carefully deconstructed and then organically rearranged and assembled into functional objects. This cabinet is the first in the series and it celebrates the unique formal qualities that develop from years tossing in the ocean.

There are about 3 million lobster traps in Maine’s waters and more than 100,000 are lost each year. The Maine Department of Marine Resources estimates that 160,000 traps were lost in the year 2007 alone.

Lost or abandoned lobster, crab and other traps plague coastal waters around the globe putting pressure on a number of already stressed ocean populations.
